Total intensity and linear polarization measurements at 1720 MHz are presented of the area l equals 38.5 to 43.5 deg and b equals -5 to 5 deg, which contains the W 50 supernova remnant. Several new sources were detected and positions and flux densities are given for the discrete sources in the field. It is suggested that the object CTB 72 is part of a large nonthermal emission arc underlying W 50 rather than being an individual supernova remnant, and parameters are derived for the large emission arc on the assumption that it is a supernova remnant. The value of the spectral index of W 50 is confirmed to be 0.46 + or - 0.05, while the adjoining S 74 region is shown to have a considerably flatter, probably thermal, spectrum.
