In this paper we present spectroscopic observations of the object Her A. We have reported previously that Her A is an interacting cD object, based on broadband photometry, and it is certainly a well known binary radio source, being one of the brightest in the sky. Our spectra, ranging from lambda ~ 4800 to 7500 however, show little of the emission we were expecting. The implications of this result for our model of Her A will be discussed.
