A method for computing the equivalent width of line transitions in the comoving frame is presented. The method is fast, and is easily implemented with the calculations used to solve the statistical equilibrium equations in conjunction with the radiative transfer equation. In the presence of electron scattering the equivalent width obtained is only approximate, however, test calculations for realistic model atmospheres indicate that accuracies of better than 10 percent are generally obtained. The method may also be used to include non-LTE line blanketing in the calculation of model atmospheres for Wolf-Rayet and other stars undergoing extensive mass loss. Previously, it was impractical to account for non-LTE line blanketing in atmospheric structure calculations when using the comoving-frame formulation of the transfer equation.
