Our aim is to establish a photometric system for the standard X-ray spectral band similar to photometric systems in optical astronomy. An X-ray photometry system would be model-independent and also easy to compare with multi-wavelength flux data. X-ray hardness ratios and colors as used today to characterize spectral properties of X-ray sources are unique to the instrument, energy bands, and flux calibration in an analysis. Thus results for different missions (e.g. Chandra and XMM) and different instruments (e.g. Chandra ACIS-I and ACIS-S) are not directly comparable. To establish an X-ray photometry system a set of wide and narrow energy bands, ARF sensitivity curves, and color corrections are necessary. The developed system is then calibrated with spectral standards, including real sources of various spectral shape and also various simulated spectra that allow detailed comparison of input and output fluxes. This work will provide a catalog of spectral standards, define various energy bands and tabulate instrument calibrations and color corrections.
