The blazar Markarian 501 (Mkn501) was observed above 100 GeV with the MAGIC Telescope during 24 nights in May, June and July 2005. In order to increase the time coverage of the source, a large fraction of the observation time was carried out in the presence of the moon. The high sensitivity of the instrument made possible the detection of the source with high significance in each of the observation nights, allowing for the measurement of not only the integrated gamma ray flux, but also the shape of the differential photon spectra on a night by night basis. During this observational campaign, the emitted gamma-ray flux from Mkn 501 was found to vary by one order of magnitude, and showed a high correlation with spectral changes in the differential photon flux. Intra-night flux variability was also observed, with doubling flux times of less than 5 minutes. Evidence for spectral shape variations in a time interval of less than 0.5 hours was found, as well as an indication of a peak in the spectral energy distribution at about 300 GeV. This spectral feature could be related to the Inverse Compton peak that is expected from leptonic models. In the conference, the details of this unprecedented spectral and temporal analysis of Mkn501 observations in the very high energy range will be presented, and the implications of these results will be discussed.
