We present the results of Suzaku observations of cataclysmic variables (CVs) and symbiotic stars, close binaries in which a white dwarf is accreting from a late type dwarf (CV) or a giant (symbiotic) companion. The combination of the wide bandpass, high sensitivity, and moderate spectral resolution makes Suzaku an ideal observatory to sudy the X-ray emission from these systems. Our presentation will include:
(i) the quiescent and outburst observations of SS Cyg, with strong evidence for reflection continuum and a dramatic change in the Fe K line profile; (ii) a serendipitous observation of the deeply eclipsing magnetic CV, XY Ari, which is detected up to 40 keV for the first time; (iii) an observation of the peculiar magnetic CV, AE Aqr, from which we seek evidence for non-thermal hard X-ray emission due to particle acceleration; and (iv) two observations of the symbiotic star, CH Cyg, which was found in a hard X-ray low state with an extraordinarily strong fluorescent Fe K line.
