The propagation and interactions of cosmic rays in clusters of galaxies are examined in detail. The interactions of cosmic rays in the intracluster medium result in the production of high energy secondary gamma rays, neutrinos and electrons. In particular, the electrons are produced in situ in proton-proton collisions even at large distance from the core, and can thus provide an explanation for the extended radio halos observed in several clusters of galaxies. The ultraviolet, X and radio spectra from inverse Compton scattering and synchrotron emission of the same electrons are calculated and compared with the available data.
