We analyse Whipple TeV data from active states of Mkn421 and Mkn501 for short timescale variability using the new Excess Pair Fraction (EPF) method. We discuss the method, the TeV data and the background, as well as EPF sensitivity to these data. We find no evidence for significant variability in either source on timescales of < 10 minutes. We briefly discuss the implications of a possible short timescale cut-off in the TeV emission from relativistic jets.
