I will discuss recent theoretical and observational developments in the study of the interaction between the neutron-star magnetic field and the accretion disk in low-mass X-ray binaries. In particular, I will discuss the effects of the presence of intrinsic and induced multipole magnetic moments, of radiation forces, and of general relativistic corrections on the scale of the neutron-star magnetosphere and on the magnitude of accretion torques. I will also present evidence on the importance of these effects based on recent Rossi XTE observations of QPOs in non-pulsing neutron-star LMXBs and of the recently discovered millisecond, accretion-powered pulsar SAX J1808-36.
