The spontaneous creation of supergravity membranes allows the cosmological constant to relax dynamically in generic models of chaotic inflation. This produces flat regions with small but non-zero values of the residual cosmological constant. The process works independently of the sources of the original cosmological constant, which may simply be assumed large. I discuss problems relating to the unit charge of the membranes.
