We demonstrate that cosmological perturbations (CP) can undergo amplification by parametric resonance (PR) during the preheating period following inflation, even on scales larger than the Hubble radius, without violating causality. A unified description of gravitational and matter fluctuations is crucial to describe PR in CP and to compare it with the usual growth of CP in inflationary models. The effect of PR on large scale CP is very model dependent, but it may turn out to be useful to differentiate the predictions of the inflationary models. Moreover, additional amplification due to PR occurs at smaller scales, which are comparable to the inverse effective mass of the inflaton.
