The main challlenge for models which try to explain gamma-ray burts (GRB) is to transform the energy of a suggested compact object into an ultrarelativistic expanding source which emits primarilly gamma-rays. We suggest a model in which the compact object produces an electric current, containing double layers. Passage through the double layers accelaretes particles to ultrarelativistic energies. The electric currents, produced by various possible compact objects, are analyzed and it is shown tghat the model suggested is able to explain existing observational data.
