The lack of bright host galaxies in several recently examined gamma-ray burst (GRB) error boxes suggests that the redshifts of cosmological GRBs may be significantly higher than previously hypothesized. Hence, the expected rate of gravitational lensing of GRBs is much larger than was generally thought a few years ago, and therefore the lack of detected lensing in the BATSE catalog places significant constraints on the new high-redshift models. Here we report our calculations of the expected rate of GRB lensing for different cosmologies. We show that the role of lensing in constraining the origin of GRBs will become dramatically more important and robust in the next five years.
