The twin-telescope particle-detector system SLED (energy range 30 keV to
30 MeV), which was built in Ireland, is briefly described. Also, an
account is given of its successful performance in space, as attested by
the acquisition of unique data during the 204-day cruise phase of the
Phobos mission to Mars and its moons and during Mars encounter.
