Measurement of extended sources is a very frequent task in 2D photometry, both as the final objective of image data reduction and as a preliminary step to measure compact objects. A great deal of work has been devoted to building photometric models for star and elliptic galaxies. The contrary is true for extended or diffuse objects where only some elementary tools such as thresholding with more or less elaborate filtering schemata are available. The author presents a set of procedures developed for 2D photometry in the MIDAS environment, their use has proved to be useful and accurate to restore the background, to remove artifacts and stars, as well as to detect and measure objects.
