The BL Lac object Mrk 421 has been observed in an active state during late 2007 and early 2008 by the VERITAS gamma-ray telescope. Simultaneous X-ray observations have been obtained with Swift-XRT and RXTE. In this contribution we will present the lightcurves and energy spectra obtained in both energy bands and their correlation. Furthermore, we will discuss the implications of these observations in the context of blazar emission models.
