A list of absolute total magnitudes for 575 apparitions of 144 periodic comets, as observed from 1770 to 1987, is presented. The data are based on the absolute brightness peaks recorded during each revolution. Uniform empirical corrections as a function of the apparent magnitude are applied to account for the instrumental effects. For each revolution, the angular characteristics of the observing geometry at perihelion, the maximum apparent brightness, its location on the orbit, and other relevant information is tabulated. For 89 comets of more than one apparition, the weighted mean absolute magnitudes and deviations from them are also determined. A comparison is made with other available catalogs of absolute and extreme magnitudes.
