The paper presents estimates of the collision probability of a trial asteroid with a great bulk of asteroidal material for different values of the semimajor axis and trial orbit eccentricity. It is shown that, with an increase in e, the collision probability decreases. It is concluded that the mutual collisions of asteroids do not influence the formation of gaps in the asteroid belt.
