Chemical analysis of 643 particles collected by high-altitude aircraft and balloons has been carried out with an electron-probe microanalyzer. The elements that were measured in this work were germanium, zinc, copper, nickel, cobalt, iron manganese, and chromium. Some of the particles were identified as contaminants. Of the rest, 92 gave positive indications of containing iron, and one of these had iron-nickel and iron-cobalt ratios similar to those of meteorites. Some gave positive tests for iron only, as their small size made testing for other elements impractical with the present equipment. The remainder contained various amounts of some of the other elements. Many of these contained large amounts of copper that may be bits of contaminants from the aluminum apparatus.
