A multicomponent stellar system can exist in which a low-mass collisionless ellipsoid (the bulge) interpenetrates a surrounding, synchronously rotating, collisionless ellipsoid (the bar) whose stars move in simple elliptic orbits. In the inner ellipsoid, whose major axis is taken orthogonal to that of the outer body, the particle motion opposes the sense of rotation.
