Recent observational evidence on solar oscillations is reviewed. It is suggested that the evidence strongly favors the global interpretation for much of the observed spectrum. Implications of these observations for the investigation of the solar interior and atmosphere are considered; attention is given to the observed properties of eigenfunctions in the photosphere, the depth of the convection zone, and photospheric gravity waves.
