Cataclysmic Variables, Stars: Emission-Line

Scientific paper

Observations of the emission line object Bl 3-14, classified by Allen (1982, 1984) as a symbiotic star, are presented. The spectra obtained in 1987, 1990, and 1991, show clearly the binary nature of the object, with a hot component with strong absorption lines and a late component with TiO absorption bands, plus a few emission lines. It is concluded that Bl 3-14 is a symbiotic star which has suffered an outburst, showing now a gM6 late component, an expanding envelope which mimics an A-F supergiant spectrum, and a gaseous envelope with a few emission lines. More observations are needed to ascertain the real behavior of this object. (SECTION: Stars)
