Dynamo Theory: Magnetohydrodynamics

The recent cosmic dynamo theories and their development are discussed. First the authors introduce the essential principles of a dynamo, and discuss the two kinds of dynamo theories: kinematic and dynamic respectively. Particularly a detailed review on the kinematic α-ω dynamo, dynamic parameter methods and direct numerical simulation methods is made. The authors also introduce the latest theoretical developments including the nonlinear, nonaxisymmetric, anisotropic and chaotic conditions.
