Papers are presented concerning the present state of research and knowlege of variable stars. Specific topics include the use of variable stars as stellar distance and population indicators, the determination of the mean radii of pulsating variables, an apparatus for the two-dimensional visualization of 5-min solar oscillations, the search for stellar activity, the light curves of stellar flares, problems in the physics of eclipsing binary systems and photoelectric photometry of RS CVn binaries. Attention is also given to the extension of the resolution method of AU Monocerotis to other variable light curves, the information derived from the UV spectra of variable stars, OH/H2O/SiO/IR stellar masers, Einstein observations of X-ray emission from variable stars, and variable stars in the Local Group.
