The paper reassesses lifetime measurements of excited electronic states of neutral Si and analyzes experimental transition probabilities of Si I lines. The solar Si/Ca ratio matches the carbonaceous chondrite groups C1, C2, and Ornans but not the Vigarano group, and is different from ordinary and enstatite chondrites. A 25% downward revision of the Si abundance determined from the solar spectrum is indicated, and the solar Si/Ca atomic ratio of 15.5 coincides with the value in carbonaceous chondrites.
