A similarity exists between the shapes of HCO(+) self-reversals observed toward a number of molecular clouds where the CO line profiles are self-reversed. The HCO(+) is not thermalized as shown by its line intensities whose strengths are only one-tenth of the CO intensities; the self-reversals tend to be deeper in HCO(+). The self-reversals and broad line wings in the HCO(+) show the significance of radiative trapping resulting from high optical depth in HCO(+) excitation. It is predicted that the J = 3-2HCO(+) line profiles portions of the clouds where the HCO(+) abundance is high but density is too low to thermalize the molecule will not have the prominent self-reversals shown in the J = 1-0 HCO(+) lines.
