The effort of collecting and synthesizing accurate astrometric parameters for as many stars as possible resulted in the production of a big Catalogue of Astrometric Data. The astrometric part of the HIPPARCOS Input Catalogue will be an extract from this catalogue. The authors describe the construction of the catalogue, its present role for HIPPARCOS and possible uses beyond HIPPARCOS.
