The identification of all double stars in the HIPPARCOS Input Catalog is described. By using a Catalog of the Components of Double and Multiple stars (CCDM) established on the basis of the Index (1976,5), 22,952 of the 206,999 entries of the provisional list L2-V were identified. In order to ensure that all double and multiple stars existing in the L2-V list are properly detected, the list of all couples of entries of the L2-V, showing separations 100" was compiled. Comparison of this list with the CCDM identified L2-V stars reveals 2,124 paris of stars which do not exist in the CCDM. Examination shows that : 224 pairs are redundancies left in the L2-V list; 300 pairs have insufficiently accurate positions to make possible their consideration, and 1,300 real wide double stars are found.
