Non-LTE effects of neutral calcium in the Sun and Procyon are investigated with a realistic treatment of the ultraviolet radiation field, giving special attention to the importance of inelastic collisions with neutral hydrogen. The non-LTE effect on the abundance is negligible in the Sun. In Procyon, abundances derived from stronger lines are consistent with those from weak lines, if departures from LTE are taken into account. Relatively large non-LTE effects of multiplets 18, 19, 29, and 30 of Ca I arise both from the large deviation of source functions from LTE and from their small damping constants.
