The detection of some inert gas in the Martian atmosphere, apparently argon, by the Mars-6 space probe is recounted. A combined analysis is conducted of IR and UV spectrometric observations as well as results of radio-occultation measurements of the Martian atmosphere to determine the accuracy of the Mars-6 results. It is shown that all these data indicate an argon abundance of 25% to 35% in the Martian atmosphere.
