It is noted that only about one-thousandth of all close binary systems survive after the collapse of one component. On this basis, it is estimated that about 100 strong and 1000 weak X-ray sources probably exist in our galaxy. The evolution of close binary systems is reviewed together with the formation of collapsars. It is shown that binary systems are destroyed due to the asymmetry of supernova explosions. In the case of such an explosion, the collapsed star is estimated to receive 0.05 to 0.15 of the total momentum of the exploding envelope.
