Results are reported for the fifth Cambridge deep survey (5C 5) of weak radio sources, which was undertaken to improve the statistics of the flux density distribution of sources at the lowest detectable levels and to determine whether or not the 5C 2 survey provided a fair sample of these faint sources. The survey was made with the Cambridge One-Mile telescope and covered an area about 4 deg in diameter at 408 MHz and a concentric area about 1 deg in diameter at 1407 MHz. The positions and flux densities of 230 sources observed at 408 MHz and of 52 sources observed at 1407 MHz are presented together with suggested optical identifications and contour maps of some sources. The flux density and spectral index distributions are found to be similar to those of the earlier 5C surveys, and no evidence is found for significant anisotropy in either distribution. Suspected errors in the flux densities observed in the 5C 1 survey are confirmed by direct observation.
