Two experimental facilities that were used to study the energy spectrum of nuclear-active particles not accompanied by extensive air showers on a 5200 m high mountain in Bolivia are described. The first enabled the recording of the energy spectrum of vertical primary protons; the second made it possible to record the shocks produced not only by isolated protons but also by isolated neutrons. The results obtained indicate that the energy spectrum of primary protons is described by a linear extrapolation proposed by Ryan et al. (1972), and that the inelastic cross-section of the interaction between protons and air nuclei increases as a function of the energy in the range from 3 TeV to 9 TeV.
