The applicability of Minnaert's (1946) empirical formula is demonstrated for the convenient analytical and graphic representation of theoretical calculations of variations in absolute albedo across the disk of a planet surrounded by a homogeneous semiinfinite atmosphere. The dependence of the limb-darkening parameter on the brightness coefficient in the center of a planetary disk is formulated for spherical, trinomial, and Henyey-Greenstein scattering curves. The wavelength dependence of limb darkening is considered for the equatorial zone of Jupiter on the basis of experimental observations. A comparison of the observed and theoretical behavior of the dependence of limb darkening on disk-center brightness indicates a substantial discrepancy between experimental and theoretical results since the degree of elongation of the Jovian cloud-layer curve decreases at the short-wavelength end. Reasons for this discrepancy are considered.
