Line profiles and velocities of the He I 10830-A line, obtained at maximum velocity separation of the spectroscopic binary Spica (alpha Vir), are presented. A mass ratio of 1.4 is derived as well as an equatorial velocity of 88 km/s for alpha Vir A. A meaningful discussion of observed equivalent widths of the He I 10830-A line awaits a more certain determination of the spectral classification of alpha Vir B.
