The author presents recent progress on binary X-ray sources. He attempts to point out current problems and puzzles that are yet to be solved. Contents: Classification of compact-binary X-ray sources. X-ray pulsars: pulse profiles and related problems, iron emission line and the question: fan beams or pencil beams?, pulse period variations. X-ray bursts: burst activity and thermonuclear flash model, burst peak luminosity, energy spectrum of burst and possible gravitational redshift, rapid burster. Black-hole candidates.
