The idea of the transformation of Tisserand is used to avoid the appearance of secular and mixed time-dependent terms while studying the coupling effects of the simultaneous action of two different perturbations. The resulting equations are free from time-dependent terms and may be solved by successive approximations. When the disturbing forces are dissipative, the pure trigonometric form will no longer be achieved, and the results will display secular terms. The reduced results are not equal to those obtained by Brouwer and Hori (1961), which indicates that some secular terms in the theory of the motion of artificial satellites in earth's atmosphere are not real, and are due to the mathematical techniques used in the theory.
