New photometry has been done for the central region of the X-ray globular cluster NGC 6712. Of a total of 208 stars, 39 were newly observed. A color-magnitude diagram is derived, including the recently discovered sdO star (Remillard et al., 1980), showing that there are no stars in the field as blue as the sdO object down to a limiting V of about 18 mag. Systematic errors appear to exist in previous photometry of the cluster, such that the reddening estimate has been revised to E(B-V) = 0.33 mag and the cluster distance to 7.9 + or - 0.1 kpc.
