A reduction procedure for Savart plate measurements to survey for high linear polarization in point-like galactic and extragalactic objects is described. The detection limit on a single plate is shown to be ˜8% in linear polarization for the range 13-18 mag (1 h exposure at a 1.2-m-telescope on IIa0). Possible applications are discussed and first results of a survey near M 17 are given.
