It is shown that, in addition to adiabatic perturbations, isothermal density perturbations of considerable amplitude can be generated in an inflationary universe. Estimates of the amplitude of the perturbations indicate that they may be sufficient for the formation of galaxies. The spectrum of the perturbations is described in a series of analytical equations. The applicability of isothermal density perturbations to current inflationary universe scenarios is discussed.
