Circumstellar Disks: Dust
Scientific paper
Model calculations of the radiation pressure force are presented for dust particles around Vega, beta Pic, Formalhaut, and HD 141569. We consider compact and porous particles of sizes 0.001 to 100 μm that consist of different materials. The radiation pressure force is shown to be more important for the considered stars than in the case of the solar system, which is calculated for comparison. As a result the particles have a much shorter Poynting-Robertson lifetime. The radiation pressure force varies considerably with the material composition of the dust particles, while the difference between compact and porous particles is comparatively small. Consequences for the size distribution, dynamics, and collision evolution in the sytems are discussed.
