The complex-rotation of comet P/Halley is studied from the point of view of the Continuum Mechanics. If a body is rotating about a non-principal axis, the body tends to reach its minimal kinetic energy state, which is gotten when the angular velocity vector has the same direction as the shortest body axis. In order to study the dissipative process we have established original expressions for the components of the stress tensor. We considered the body as a symmetric ellipsoid, a more realistic shape than that of a rectangular prism as was considered in earlier works. From Linear Elasticity, we obtain the temporal average of the elastic potential. The relative importance of the double frequency mode is greater than that already pointed out by Lazarian & Efroimsky (1999). An estimation of the relaxation time for comet P/Halley is made.
