A multichannel double beam chopping polarimeter is being used in interstellar polarization measurements at the La Silla site of the European Southern Observatory. This polarimeter can be easily turned into a multichannel photometer. By means of a rotating chopper, two apertures in the focal plane diaphragm are alternately opened and closed at 25 Hz so that the photocathode is alternately illuminated by the sky and star apertures. When the instrument is used for polarization observations, a plane-parallel calcite plate is inserted in front of the focal plane. The polarizations measured in 1980 for all A and F Population II stars (for which reliable distances are available) are plotted in galactic coordinates.
