Eight of the brightest Be stars have been measured for linear polarization across the spectral lines of H-beta, Ca II H and Ca II K, the latter two lines being investigated for the first time. Dips in the polarization at H-beta have been confirmed in the stars which have been measured previously; a dip was discovered for Omega Ori, this being expected from previous H-alpha observations, while no dip could be detected for Phi And. Polarization dips at Ca II H have been discovered for Gamma Cas, Phi Per and possibly for Psi Per and Zeta Tau. However, it is difficult to assess the influence that H-epsilon has on these results. Enhancements of polarization at Ca II K have been discovered for Zeta Tau, Kappa Dra and possibly for Gamma Cas and Phi Per. Although the statistical evidence is weak, there appears to be a tendency for the polarizations to dip in the hydrogen lines and to be enhanced in the calcium lines, so revealing stratification of absorption processes within the extended atmospheres. An earlier hypothesis that the polarization dips in the Balmer lines could be ascribed to unpolarized emission flux is shown not to have general validity.
