Equation of motion for real dust particle under the action of electromagnetic radiation is more general than equation of motion corresponding to standardly used Poynting-Robertson effect (P-R effect). As a consequence, orbital evolution of submicron and micron sized particles may significantly differ from that corresponding to the P-R effect. The paper deals with the problem of applicability of the P-R effect for motion of really shaped dust particles. It is shown that results depend not only on physico-optical properties of the articles (shape, distribution of material within the particle - i.e. density, porosity, refractive index), but also on the solved problems. Applications to problems dealing with I) orbital evolution of meteoroids ejected from comets, and, II) capture of interstellar dust stream in the Solar System, are presented.
