In this paper, we describe a project to better estimate the amount of 26Al in the Galaxy from nova outbursts on ONeMg white dwarfs. A key component of this project is the development of a quantitative model for the formation of CVs with ONeMg white dwarfs. We review existing scenarios for the formation of CVs with ONeMg white dwarfs and suggest a new evolutionary scenario for the formation of CVs with low-mass ONeMg-rich white dwarfs. We also discuss the observational constraints relevant to an estimate of 26Al production from ONeMg novae. We suggest that one of these constraints, the diffuse Galactic 1.8 MeV gamma-ray emission mapped by COMPTEL, may be used to place upper limits on the uncertainties in the nuclear reaction rates relevant to 26Al production.
