Changes in the angular velocity of rotation during a sunspot group's life were studied, and the results are presented. The spot groups which occurred during the solar cycles of 1923-1933, 1934-1944, and 1945-1954 and which had their maximum areas within the intervals 300-500, 500-1000 and over 1000 millionths of solar hemisphere were considered separately and in combinations. Their initial, final, and overall angular velocities were determined, and the mean values of the differences in these velocities were found to often exceed their standard errors but rarely by an order of magnitude. The signs of these mean values were sometimes positive and sometimes negative. It is concluded that aggregates of spot groups do show statistically significant accelerations and decelerations during their lifetimes, but at a rather low level of confidence. There is a general trend toward acceleration during the early phase and deceleration during the late phase, resulting in overall deceleration.
