VLA surveys have been conducted of the continuum emission from 11 bright E/S0 galaxies which contain compact radio cores, yielding data on total and linearly polarized intensities. Like their more luminous counterparts, which are associated with quasars and BL Lacertae objects, the present compact radio cores possess flat or inverted radio spectra at frequencies greater than about 5 GHz. Most of them also exhibit time-variable flux densities, and display structure on milliarcsec scales. The linearly polarized emission detected from four of the galaxies is found to be significantly displaced from the compact-core location. Extended emission on arcmin scales was found in four cases, and steep spectrum components are associated with three galaxies. These arcmin-scale and/or steep spectrum components may represent relics of past radio continuum activity.
