A mechanism is proposed by means of which the quasi-periodic luminosity variations of accreting magnetic white dwarfs and neutron stars can be obtained. The funneling process of the accreted material may indirectly lead to such variations in the luminosity of magnetized sources. The expected periods of such variabilities are estimated, and an attempt is made to identify them with observed quasi-periodic oscillations. Predictions are made for the periodicities of EX Hya and AM Her.
