A random number generator is proposed based on a theorem about chaos in a ?xed point iteration. According to the statement of this theorem, a non converging and non diverging ?xed point iteration, if did not encounter a loop, would exhibit chaotic behavior. It has been shown that many such functions exists, albeit not all suitable for harnessing randomness. Digital com- puter simulations of these functions exhibit pseudo random behavior. Among such functions the iteration : x = cot^2(x) is found to be an apt choice for harnessing randomness from the inherent chaotic behavior of the iteration.
